Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Cape Breton Highlands National Park is the jewel in Cape Breton's wilderness crown. Open year-round, it is the largest park reserve on the eastern seaboard and welcomes some half-a-million visitors yearly. The park protects the tundra-like barrens, the boreal forest, the hardwood stands, and the rocky coastline and provides a great variety of visitor services and opportunities for outdoor activities.

The park has campgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails, beaches, look-offs, and opportunities for fishing, golfing and wildlife observation. In summer there are interpretive programs by park staff explaining the natural and social history of the area. In winter there's cross-country skiing on well-groomed trails, as well as opportunities for skating, snowshoeing, tobogganing and ice fishing. Don't forget your thermos!

Even more information regarding the Cape Breton Highlands can be found at the Northeast Highlands Chamber of Commerce website.
