The Cabot Trail
The world-famous Cabot Trail is the scenic highway that takes you on this magical journey. Named for explorer John Cabot, the highland highway goes in a loop for 185-miles, around Cape Breton's northern tip with one-third of the road located in the national park. The Cabot Trail brings you some of the most spectacular seaside scenery in Canada and takes you through a great variety of rural landscapes -- from lazy-day, river valleys, to wave-beaten, rocky shoreline. Along the way you'll pass through small coastal villages, home to warm, welcoming people who appreciate the value of hard work and a cheerful greeting. They've been here for some two hundred years living off the land and the sea, honoring the legacy of their pioneer ancestors and keeping alive the best of Old World traditions. You'll hear the melody of the highlands in their voices and their talk -- the lilt of Gaelic, the rhythm of French, the cadence of the Newfoundland outport. They work and play in this marvelous setting and take great pride in extending "one-hundred thousand welcomes" to visitors near and far.
